.NET install bundled with Grokster

Remember the 65mb malware install that downloaded all 23MB of the .NET framework without you knowing about it? Well, Sunbelt Software have discovered that new installs of Grokster now come with something else...can you guess what it is?

That's right - the .NET framework, courtesy of Broadcastpc.tv as far as we can tell.

And I quote:

A recent Grokster download by one of our researchers showed it installed the following adware programs:

  • AltNet BDE (Brilliant Digital Entertainment)
  • BroadcastPC.tv
  • DelfinProject
  • FlashTrack
  • GAIN/Gator
  • MyWay
  • SurfSideKick2
  • Topmoxie WebCPR
So, it looks like the initial serving of the .NET framework was a trial run to see how this thing would work. Obviously, someone gave the green light and now there's seemingly no need for Windows updates anymore, because peer to peer software and adware installs will do it for you!

Coming soon....a beta version of Longhorn, served up by a clickthrough promising you've won a luxury cruise and a bottle of plonk.
