Excellent post alert!

No, not here - here.

Alex Eckelberry, the top man at Sunbelt Software, talks more about "definitions" regarding Adware, Spyware and all those other labels that don't really matter but seemingly cause people so much worry. And I quote:

"We're not crazed vigilantes in a mindless battle against advertising. We know that you have a business which needs to run. It's just that we're in the business of protecting users and enterprises from adware and spyware. And that goes above any other discussion".

If the companies involved in the
Antispyware Coalition had thought about this a little better, they would pool all their money together and create a huge fund that any company hit with another silly C&D letter could dip into as and when needed with regards legal fees, rather than blow a wad of cash on a bunch of talky stuff and useless paperwork that's full of lofty ideals and no actual practical value.

Then they wouldn't have to spend all this time drawing up "legislation / standards" to prevent people issuing said C&D letters, as there'd be too much awareness of a vast sack of legal cash preventing them from sending such things in the first place.

Those same people causing the problems will continue to blame screwball installs on rogue affiliates (yawn) whilst adding yet another layer of "legitimacy" to their belt. Meanwhile, any company out there trying to clean up their act might as well not bother, when the guy to their left is still pushing out rogue hits and getting kudos for it.

Go figure.
