Beyonce kicks adware installer's booteh...
Not so long ago, Sunbelt brought us this little beauty - the interesting bit being the very "descriptive" nature of the installer. Well, look what I got! Forum regular 3dJelly pointed me in the direction of a website that gave up some interesting finds...get those click the picture to enlarge fingers at the ready...
As you can see, the picture shows a website stating "Free Picture Access by Zango Search Tools". What does that suggest to you? Maybe, perhaps, that you need to install whatever lurks behind the prompt to....oh, I don't know....look at the pictures?
Well, heaven help the poor cat whose curiosity et cetera, et cetera, because if you clicked "no", you get this little number...
Oh noes! Somebody get me a ROFLCOPTER! Looks like you need to click YES to view these pics now! Except....well, you know what's coming next, don't you? But, for the benefit of those sitting in the cheap seats - here is the deal. Of course you don't need to click yes to view these pics now! It's a big, fat juicy piece of deception with one aim in mind - getting the end-user to click the boomage button and install the software. Because can you guess what happens if you click "Cancel"? Oh, I bet you can...
Oh my God! It's Beyonce! And she's making the sexy face at me! Wait...didn't I need to install that Zango thingy to see this? Or do the creators of this website expect all their visitors to have "sucker" stamped to their forehead?
Hmm...better not answer that.
Anyway, I did a little digging round and this particular website has partners galore, and they all do the same thing - suck. Royally. There's a wallpaper one - dubious install technique, check. A "pictures of animals" one - dubious install technique, check. A "pictures of your cars" one (I'm not kidding) - check. In fact, double check with a cherry on top. How come? Well, turns out that the car one alternates between a whole bunch of rotating installers. Sometimes, you get the Zango one - then (after the small "click yes, dummy" popup), you get served with the happy little campers below. Yep, our old buddies YSBweb and Slotchbar put in a surprise performance!
Mind you, their description of what goes on when clicking yes is slightly more informative than the Zango one. However, the fact remains - the whole thing sucks. Now if you'll excuse me, Beyonce wants me to bust some moves on the dancefloor...
