The attack of the 50-foot music men....

I would've covered this earlier, but the recent RSS feed shambles prevented me from posting properly - hence, a big raft of stuff today. Now...

Music guys. They suck and blow at the same time. That's why I was so overjoyed to see the EFF kick some right in the pants a few days back - specifically, for sending a nice threatening letter to a guy whose program merely fetches lyrics for people to grab a hold of words for songs they like.

Yes, this is the latest "hot new threat" to the music industry.

One quick letter from the EFF later, and a hurried "joint statement" is wanged out on the Pearworks website. It's full of all-around-the-houses waffle, in an obvious effort to not look too silly. But the important part is this:

Warner/Chappell apologizes to Walter Ritter and pearworks.

Pwned!

The fact remains - the single greatest inspiration to people at the moment looking to pirate music isn't the Warez sites, the P2P networks or even Cap'n Copyalot's Big House of Copyright Theft - it's the music industry itself.

Well done, guys - a winner is you.
