Windows WMF patch is NOT installing automatically....
...because if you'd read this, you'd think it was. Top tips for spotting a Neddy-no-no:
1) The only source for this information is one site. Just one. And it can't even be reached at present. Now, stranger things have happened, but scanning all the news feed sources such as Google news and the like returns about two links - one of which is down, and one (Addicted.org) which gets its' information from....you guessed it, the article linked to in Digg.com. This would be such major news that it would appear everywhere. The danger here is, front-pagers on Digg.com do get everywhere, and the WMF exploit is such a potential landmine of hype and overworked hysteria that it's crucial to keep an eye on stuff like this.
2) It looks like someone doesn't actually know how to use Windows updates.
3) People are voting for it, even though they can't read the one supposed source of this information. This is scary.
4) The real source for this isn't even the Email Battles site (which, it turns out, is merely reporting on a report from somewhere else - Chinese whispers time!)...but a comment in a comments section in a rather throwaway piece on the WMF patch rollout!
This has been a public service broadcast. Thank you.
