Vigilante Trojan? Make my day...

"The Erazer Trojan is a vigilante worthy of a Charles Bronson movie, taking the law into its own hands. However, it's perfectly possible for the Trojan to aim poorly and wipe out innocent files too," (Graham Cluley of Sophos).

Well, Charles Bronson wasn't the best shot in the World so you're asking for trouble with a comparison like that. Still - this infection hunts around your file-sharing folders and deletes files with certain extensions. The idea is that it "protects" you from peer to peer nasties. Except, it actually spreads using P2P itself and makes your PC less secure. Whoops.

I don't think we've heard the whole story on this one - sure, it appears to be looking for rogue EXEs. But wouldn't it make more sense if this thing had been created by a Malware maker eager to kill off the competition?
