Show! Me! The! Money!
Not so long ago, Alex Eckelberry at Sunbelt wrote this, regarding something that needed clearing up regarding Youtube and Malware.
Well, here comes a new article and I'm still confused. In fact, I'm even more confused.
"One recent victim is YouTube. The infamous Zlob adware has appeared on YouTube masquerading as a YouTube video object. When a user selects the Zlob-compromised video they are bombarded with advertisements.
Alas, Malware wasn't a one-time problem for YouTube. In another example, a video on YouTube called "After World Episode 6" caused a file with a movie icon to be downloaded to users' PCs. When users click on the icon, two different Trojan horses are installed on their PCs. The Trojans steal the users' personal information and then send it to a server in the former Soviet Union."
This really needs to be cleared up - either someone has found a way to stick all sorts of nastyness into a YouTube video that then somehow launches popups or redirects or whatever - doubtful - or we're actually talking about an advert on the YouTube site that takes you somewhere else when clicked then launches an attack from a remote website.
For what it's worth, I left the below in the comments section.
"The above sounds like you're giving examples of .flv Youtube movies somehow "infecting" people with these trojans. If this is the case, please post a screenshot of such a thing happening? If, however, you're talking about an advert on Youtube being displayed that THEN leads to a site that tries to install a trojan, can you make it clearer?"
