The stupidest thing ever, probably
You may or may not be familiar with Emusic, a great source of DRM-free music and (recently) Audiobooks. Well, it looks like someone needs their head slapping with a wet fish, because what can only be a month or so into the Audiobook deal, this happens.
"But eMusic has been dealt an early blow. Penguin Audio, one of the five publishers that signed on initially, has bailed out, withdrawing 150 titles over concerns about digital piracy."
...do you want to hear the stupidest thing anyone ever said, ever? Here it comes.
"At this moment we're not going to have our titles on eMusic or with anyone else who sells non-DRM until the landscape shakes out and we feel very comfortable and confident that our titles will not be pirated," said Dick Heffernan, publisher of Penguin Audio."
......HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Yes, Dick, DRM definitely does prevent piracy and there most definitely aren't, like, six billion ways for anyone with half a brain to get around DRM restrictions on music and audiobook files.
This is the dumbest thing I ever heard. If you want to make 100% sure that nobody ever pirates or shares something you put out in the digital domain, then God damn it, don't even bother to release it because you know what? Beep, beep, newsflash coming though, IT'S GOING TO GET PIRATED.
They might as well rework his words to say "Sorry to anyone who wants DRM-free material, but not only do we NOT want your money, we're also going to then blame piracy for the drop in sales despite the fact that we're denying you the chance to obtain our works legally in the first place. Also, wibble, wibble, drool."
What a joke.
By the way,
